The personality of Emil Hácha in the Second Czechoslovak Republic (1938-1939)

This bachelor thesis is focused on Emil Hácha during the period of the so called Second Republic, that existed between October 1938 and March 1939, while he was the President of Czechoslovakia. The goal of this bachelor thesis is not only to describe the steps he took in the time of constant threat by the neighbouring Third Reich, but also to capture the mood and atmosphere enveloping the country on the eve of the Second World War.

This diploma thesis "Freelance journalist Franta Kocourek" deals with the life and career of Franta Kocourek, the important Czechoslovak journalist in the 20. century. Diploma focuses especially on his working in the press media - prestigious periodicals of the First Czechoslovak Republic weekly magazine Přítomnost and daily newspaper Lidové noviny, not too much successful weekly magazine Groš, leaded by himself, and daily newspaper Slovenský hlas. Kocourek especially had concentrated on reportages, but he was also very universial in styles and issues. He had been writing profound reportages about growing influence of nacism besides surveys about people living at the edge of society, expert studies about the cinemotagraphy or essayes. This diploma describes Kocourek as a omnifarious personality, who had been occupying by literature, movies or public lectures except his working in media. There is also mentioned his working in the radio, where he had been improving among the best reporters at the turn of the 1930s and the 1940s, who had been going along with the Czechoslovak people during last period of the First Czechoslovak Republic, short time of the Second Czechoslovak Republic and the nazi ocupation. Luis Buñuel and Spain in the 1930s

The bachelor thesis focuses on the phase of the 1930s in Spain. On grounds of movie production of Spanish director Luis Buñuel, it tries to zoom in and clarify the problems and political-economic situation in that era. Author devotes himself to three chosen spheres (anticlericalism, education, army) whose evolution from 19th century until the Second republic is investigated through the specialized literature, contemporary articles and movies. Emphasis is laid on the existence of chosen aspects in political-social level of that era, their presence and critique in selected works, whereby the thesis tries to offer an analysis of certain problems, which are closely associated with the spheres primarily examined in the bachelor thesis. Attention is also focused on the personality of Luis Buñuel, his political orientation and cultural terms of Spain in the 1930s.
Conception of Jew in the Czech film during the Second Republic and the Protectorate

The thesis "Conception of Jew in the Czech film during the Second Republic and the Protectorate" deals with ways of displaying characters of Jewish figures in the film in the period. It deals with Czech films made between the years 1939-1945, which appears Jewish character, then their analysis and evaluation of whether the film antisemitic sting occurred or not. The work focuses primarily on Czech film production, but also mentions characteristically related films made in Nazi Germany. The Political System of the Second Czechoslovak Republic

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá politickým systémem Druhé Československé republiky. První kapitola se věnuje definici autoritativních režimů a jejich dělení podle Juana Josého Linze. Dále stručně představuji politický systém První Československé republiky, abych později mohl lépe popsat změny, které nastaly ve Druhé republice. Poté se zabývám Mnichovskou dohodou a jejím vlivem na podobu Druhé republiky. V následující kapitole se věnuji jednotlivým aspektům Druhé Československé republiky, přičemž se budu primárně snažit zodpovědět otázku: "Byl politický systém Druhé Československé republiky demokratický, nebo byl spíše autoritativního rázu?" Konkrétněji se v této kapitole věnuji ústavě, fungování státní správy, soustavě státních orgánů, hospodářskému režimu a dodržování občanských práv a svobod. Samostatnou kapitolu jsem přiřadil stranickému systému, na kterém byl nejviditelnější úpadek demokracie. V této kapitole popisuji možné podoby stranického systému a velkou pozornost věnuji Straně národní jednoty a Národní straně práce. Dále popisuji stranický systém na Slovensku a objasňuji fungování neloajálních opozičních skupin. V závěru budu aplikovat Linzovu teorii autoritativních režimů na případ Druhé republiky, čímž zodpovím onu výzkumnou otázku.
Čin magazine in years 1929-1939

The master's thesis Čin magazine in 1929 - 1939 deals with the cultural-political magazine Čin, which was issued in Prague in between the world wars. This left-wing and democratically orientated weekly, later a fortnightly, magazine focused on current cultural and public issues within former Czechoslovakia. The thesis aims to provide a thorough profile of what was an important and distinctive periodical in its time. Firstly, the thesis deals with outlining the notion of the magazine within the mass media, further on it describes the characteristics of the media landscape in the period of the first and second republic, where the printed media and their related area of problems are dealt with in detail. A subchapter on the cultural and political standing of Czechoslovakia in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century is also included, the focus is also on the position of the Čin magazine in the array of magazines of that time. The ensuing parts of the thesis already deal with the periodical itself, firstly in the period from 1929 to 1936, when the magazine was under the leadership of Marie Majerová, and secondly in the period of leadership of Bohumil Přikryl, that is from 1937 to 1939. The reflection of German cinematography in the Czech film press 1936-1939

Bachelor thesis "Reflection of German cinematography in selected Czech film periodicals from 1936 till March 1939" records in what way Czech film periodicals reacted to the development and changes of the German cinematography in context of political and social transformations both nations underwent during the above-mentioned period. The thesis focuses on whether the film periodicals changed the way they reflected German cinematography during the period of escalating Nazi aggression towards Czechoslovakia and especially in the situation after the acceptance of Munich Agreement. The opening section covers broader historical and media context of Czechoslovakia in the era of the First Czechoslovak Republic. The next part describes and characterizes analysed film periodicals, weekly Kinorevue, Filmový kurýr and biweekly Filmové listy. Separate chapter is focused on German cinematography from its development during the period of mute films, throughout the changes caused by the introduction of audio films, until the German film industry was put under state control by Hitler and the film was used as a tool of Nazi propaganda. Transformations of Kinorevue newsreel in 1934-1945

Bachelor's thesis "Transformations of Kinorevue newsreel in 1934-1935" records the development of the popular film periodical during the above-mentioned period considering cultural and political development of the Czech society. The thesis deals with content and formal analysis of Kinorevue newsreel. The attention is paid to the personnel management of the magazine, its correspondents, important texts, features, graphical arrangement, range, price etc. A certain place is also given to the brief analysis of Kinorevue newsreel predecessor - Svět ve filmu a obrazech magazine. Brief characteristics of political and economical conditions in Czechoslovakia during the years 1930-1945 and a summary of the Czechoslovak cinametographical development in 1930s and during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia come before the analysis. Sections aimed at the genesis and development of the Czechoslovak film press and at the press regulation and controlling from the beginning of Czechoslovakia to the end of the World War Two are significant parts of the essay, too. The Bachelor's thesis is closed by the chapter summarizing and comparing every single period in Kinorevue newsreel development.
